Recruiter Job Satisfaction

At the end of last year we spent some time reaching out to 50 of our favorite recruiters currently recruiting in various staffing industries, or working in corporations as in-house recruiters. We asked them some intimate questions about recruiter job satisfaction, their role, how they got into recruiting as a career, and the vision of their future as it relates to recruiting. We also asked them questions about the effectiveness of the tools they use and the processes they are given by their employer in order to excel at the roles and responsibilities.

We asked 27 questions and split them into two categories. This article is part 1 of a 2 part series.

Here is what we uncovered.

Where do your Recruiters Come From?

It’s important to understand where successful recruiters originated. Most recruiters don’t come out of school expecting to be a recruiter; they happen upon the career by random chance. If you are looking to hire more recruiters, maybe this will give you some insight.

What’s the Direction of a Recruiter’s Career?

It appears that once recruiters become recruiters, the majority want to remain a recruiter for the rest of their career.

Recruiter Compensation

For the most part, recruiters feel good about the money they make and how they are compensated. Companies might want to evaluate a few items relating to commission structures and how they apply to goals and objectives of the position.

In summary, here are some of the more interesting points we exported from the data:

  • Nearly 73% of the respondents spend in excess of 40 hours/week recruiting, with 36% of them working 50+ hours/week
  • Only 24% of the recruiters have to work in the office 5 days/week. The rest have the flexibility of working from home on variable schedules
  • Only 21.2% of the recruiters said that their recruiting team has had zero turnover in the past 12 months
  • 53.1% of the recruiters claim that management places more of an emphasis on sales, operations and the owner’s vacation homes, than on recruiting
  • 37.5% say that they rarely (or once in a blue moon) hold team-building events
  • Over 50% of the respondents replied saying that their work/life balance is hectic and feel like they are in a reality show at times
